Oil Painting June 9-June 13 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Entering Grades 5-8 Do you wish you could oil paint? Join our weeklong program that will take you from beginner to an experienced painter. Oil paint is the paint of choice for many artists, and for good reason: it can skillfully copy real textures, be used to create amazing new effects, and has a beautiful glow that shows the best side of your work. Plus, it’s fun to work with! In this course, we cover basic techniques for preparing, color mixing, layering, and brushwork, giving you all the tools to create wonderful paintings on your own. Oil paint is messy (wear old clothes or a large smock to class) but worth it! Instructors: Aurora Meyer and Dawn Meyer. $215
Figure Drawing June 9-June 13 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Entering Grades 5-8 Do you love to draw? Then this is the perfect class for you. Figure drawing, or drawing the human body, is an essential class for beginning artists. This class will teach your hands and mind to work together in a way that will make any drawing you do better. Along the way, you’ll find out why the human figure has been the favorite subject of artists from Michelangelo to Picasso: figures are beautiful, interesting, and so much more fun to draw than still lives. In fact, many art teachers and art schools agree that learning figure drawing is one of the most important skills for any artist to have. In this class you’ll learn not only to draw the body exactly as you see it, but also to bring your own unique style to an ages old, respected tradition. There’s a reason figure drawing has been taught since the Renaissance, and stayed important. Combine this figure drawing class with the morning oil painting class for an incredible week long art extravaganza. All models will be clothed. Instructors: Aurora Meyer and Dawn Meyer
